Retired Companions

From time to time, an adult from our program becomes available for a carefully selected companion home.

Our dogs are lifelong members of the Safari family. However, in a preservation breeding program, some dogs eventually retire from showing or breeding. While they continue to live full and happy lives here, we occasionally choose to place a retired adult in a thoughtfully selected home where they can enjoy even more individualized attention in their golden years.

In a multi-dog household, even a deeply loved dog shares time and energy. Some retirees truly flourish as the center of someone’s world — as a cherished couch companion, daily walking partner, or one-on-one shadow. These placements are never made lightly and are based solely on what we believe will provide the best long-term lifestyle for that individual dog.

Our priority is always the dog’s well-being, happiness, and continued security. We remain invested in every dog we produce for their lifetime.

If you are interested in being considered for a retired companion when one becomes available, please complete the inquiry form below.

Currently Available

At this time, we have one retired companion available for placement. As with all of our dogs, this decision has been made thoughtfully and with her individual happiness in mind. Our goal is not simply to find a home, but to find the right home — one that complements her personality, lifestyle needs, and stage of life.

OFA HEALTH TESTING

She is in excellent physical condition and has been maintained with consistent, proactive veterinary care throughout her life. She has completed every health screening recommended for the Schipperke breed, all with normal results. Transparency is important to us.

Because we value ongoing relationships and want to remain accessible and supportive. We are in no rush. The right fit matters far more than timing.

Temperament & Personality

She is an incredibly sweet, affectionate, and calm mature female who bonds deeply and intensely with her person. When she attaches, she attaches completely — she wants to be near you, devoted to you, and connected to you.

Because of that strong loyalty, she does not do well in environments where she must share her person with other dogs. While she previously lived peacefully alongside a male dog, she became possessive of her owner’s attention and struggled with jealousy. After careful consideration, it became clear she would be happiest and most secure as the only dog in the home.

She is not comfortable with visiting children and does not enjoy frequent household traffic. In her previous placement, she reacted to a visiting family member, which ultimately confirmed that she needs a quiet, adult-only environment with limited visitors.

She thrives in calm, structured settings with a predictable routine and clear boundaries. She is not an anxious dog — she is a devoted one. In the right home, her loyalty is remarkable.

Her ideal placement is with a confident adult owner or couple within Texas or Oklahoma who desires a deeply bonded, one-on-one companion and understands the breed’s alert, protective nature.

She does not need chaos. She needs her person.

Ideal Home

  Adult-only household
• No other dogs
• No young or visiting children
• Quiet, structured environment
• Securely fenced yard preferred
• Located in Texas or Oklahoma only

Her ideal owner is confident, calm, and appreciates a deeply bonded companion. She will flourish in a home where she does not need to compete for attention and where expectations are clear and consistent.
